YOUTH BASKETBALL

Y Sports programs focus on fun, teaching kids sport-specific skills while helping them grow personally by clarifying values such as sportsmanship and fair play.

In every Y Basketball program, kids and teens learn basic basketball skills using age-appropriate equipment (i.e. smaller balls and baskets for preschool ages). They do fun drills and games that teach ball handling and shooting skills. Early in the program, skill work is stressed as they practice, and later the idea of team play will be developed as teams participate in league games.

Youth Basketball Skills Clinics

Ages 4-12

Usually offered as pre-season skill-development programs, our co-ed skills programs focus on basketball skills and emphasize practice situations. Participants will improve ball skills like dribbling, passing and shooting, but will also learn court dynamics such as defensive movements and gameplay mechanics. Excellent for league preparation.

Youth Basketball League

Ages 4-14

YBL is the YMCA’s most popular youth sports league. The focus is on skill development, sportsmanship, and fun, so everyone plays. Practices are developed to meet the needs of each group. The first 3 weeks are devoted to practice and the last 5 weeks to playing games. The games and practice times will be determined based on the number of participants.

YMCA Travel Team Basketball

Grades 6-8

Our co-ed middle school team competes with other YMCA travel teams at Ys located in Norfolk & Plymouth Counties. The team will be formed based on tryouts held in November, and the season runs from mid-December through mid-February. Practices for the travel team are held at the Foxboro Y.

Basketball Tournaments

Ages 13-17

Grab some friends and get ready to ball out! This is your chance to show off your skills and bring home the gold. Compete against fellow teens throughout the Hock to see who has what it takes to go all the way in our tournament of champions.

Tournaments are held periodically throughout the year.
