YOUTH DANCE

Dance cultivates an appreciation for artistry while building coordination and confidence in kids.

We provide dance programs for all levels in a progressive format. Programs run throughout the year in several dance styles.

Classes are held in the studio on the first floor unless indicated otherwise.

Parent/Caregiver and Child Classes

Wee Dance Ages 1-2

An introduction to dance for our youngest dancers. This parent-child class is structured to stimulate coordination, listening, balance, music interpretation, creative movement, and motor development skills. Participants must be able to walk. Beginner Level Classes

Tots & Tutus Ages 2-3

Tots & Tutus is a ballet/creative movement class for tiny dancers. Children will be introduced to beginning ballet skills, learn basic ballet positions, and explore movement and music across the floor. Children will prepare a ballet routine for a spring dance recital.

Princess Dance Ages 3-5

Children will love this princess-themed dance class, which includes a craft, dress up, games, and activities corresponding to the princess of the week. Children will be introduced to and learn basic ballet skills and positions, center-floor work and across-the-floor combinations. Examples include Ariel, Belle, Aurora, Jasmine, Cinderella, and Rapunzel. Children will prepare a ballet routine for a spring dance recital.

Ballet & Beam Ages 3-5

Get the best of both worlds. This class combines a 25-minute ballet class with a 30-minute gymnastics class. Students will learn basic ballet steps, positions, and movements, take a 5-minute transition, and then learn and practice basic gymnastics skills. Children will prepare a ballet routine for a spring dance recital.

Progressive Classes

Dance Combo 1 Ages 3-5

This combo class teaches the fundamentals of Tap & Ballet. Tap will introduce dancers to rhythm and coordination, musical awareness, and varying sounds. Ballet will introduce and teach the basic ballet positions and movements, proper body placement, pre-barre work, and across-the-floor combinations. A portion of this preschool class also allows the dancers to be able to express and move their bodies freely and find joy in dancing. Children will prepare a ballet routine and a tap routine for a spring dance recital.

Dance Combo 2 Ages 4-6

This combo class teaches the fundamental elements of Tap & Ballet. Tap will focus on timing, rhythm patterns, musicality, and combining steps. Ballet will focus on proper body placement and posture, flexibility, dance technique, and across-the-floor combinations. A portion of this preschool class also allows the dancers to be able to express and move their bodies freely and find joy in dancing. Children will prepare a ballet routine and a tap routine for a spring dance recital.

Dance Combo 3 – Ballet/Tap Ages 6-9

This combo class teaches more elements of Ballet & Tap. Ballet will focus on the continual study of the fundamentals of ballet, including proper body placement and alignment, ballet positions, an introduction to barre work, and combining steps for movement across the floor. Emphasis will be placed on understanding technique, as well as instilling an appreciation and enjoyment of performing. Tap will focus on learning different rhythm patterns and combinations. This level will emphasize clarity of rhythm and sound, and the development of style through the use of the whole body. Children will prepare a ballet routine and a tap routine for a spring dance recital.

Dance Combo 3 – Ballet/Jazz Ages 6-9

This combo class teaches the fundamentals of Ballet & Jazz. Ballet will focus on basic ballet skills, including proper body placement and alignment, ballet positions, and combining steps for movement across the floor. The class will emphasize proper dance technique, coordination, and musicality and introduce barre work. Jazz will introduce a new style for a fun, expressive way of dancing. Dancers will focus on basic jazz technique, performance dynamics, increased flexibility, strength, and overall development of the style. Children will prepare a ballet routine and a jazz routine for a spring dance recital.

Specialty Classes

Hip Hop Ages 6-9

Hip Hop is a fast-paced and energetic dance style using funky street dance moves, set to hip-hop music. This class is a great strength-building and cardio workout that includes warm-up, stretching, and learning combinations. This class will focus on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style and building a vocabulary of steps. Hip Hop class is great for fun, dance technique, and exercise! All music and movement are age-appropriate. Children will prepare a hip hop routine for a spring dance recital.

Musical Theatre Dance Ages 6-9

Musical Theatre Dance is a jazz-based class filled with Broadway-style dancing and music. The class will include a center warm-up with stretches and strengthening, followed by across-the-floor technique and choreography. In this course, students learn strong techniques in jazz fundamentals, performance skills such as connecting with the audience and facial expressions as well as choreography derived from various Broadway styles. Children will prepare a musical theatre routine for a spring dance recital.
