LIVESTRONG at the YMCA:
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a twelve-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their "new normal". The program is conducted outside of medical facilities to emphasize that LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is about health, not disease." More information on LIVESTRONG.
Chronic Disease Prevention
The Hockomock Area YMCA has developed the Prescription for a Healthy Lifestyle (PHL) Initiative to raise awareness, change behavior, and develop healthy lifestyles among those most at-risk for, or diagnosed with, heart disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer and other chronic diseases. By working with individuals and families, organizations and communities, the Hockomock Area YMCA’s health innovation initiative helps people live well, reduce their risk for chronic disease, and reclaim their health when they’ve been affected by one.
Our supportive 12-week, small group physical activity programs are making a positive difference in the lives of individuals. These sessions are provided at no charge, and include a complimentary family membership while enrolled in one of our initiatives, with a goal of creating healthy habits for the entire family.
